Itinerary  Syros    (1 week)

 

A cruise in the centre of the Aegean Sea is rather recommended to experienced and 'warned' sailors.  The wind can be quite strong in the area of Mykonos and Delos.

 

A discovery of the Cyclades, with their deserted anchorages and picturesque  ports, where it is so pleasant to spend the evening in a taverna on the waterfront and  watch the sunset.

 

 

 

Day 1    Syros

 

Syros is the legal and administrative center of the Cyclades, Also renowned for its fine architecture and traditional farms.

Worth a visit is Ermoupolis, the capital,  with its  narrow alleyways, old whitewashed  houses, neoclassical buildings and beautiful churches, .

Explore the Vaporia quarter in  Ermoupolis, which will remind you of Venice

Day 2     Mykonos

 

The most popular island of the Cyclades.

 

Find a place to anchor in the port, which is located west of the town. As soon as you have taken care of your boat, you can start discovering the narrow streets of Mykonos.

.

 

 

Mykonos might be overcrowded especially in August , but her charm is always appealing.

 

 

 

 

 

Day 3       Delos - Paros

 

In ancient times Delos used to be  the religious and sacred centre of the Cyclades.  The island is one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. Famous is the much -photographed  Terrace of the Lions.

 

According to legend,  Leto gave birth to the twins Apollo and Artemis by the Sacred Lake ( dry since it was drained in 1925 to prevent malarial mosquitoes breeding ).

 

 

This is a site you should absolutely visit.

 

 

Overnight stays on Delos are forbidden, but you can sail to Rhinia (2 miles) where you will find some splended and deserted anchorages.

 

 

You can spend the night in Paros and enjoy the old Cycladic quarter of Parikia.

 

 

 

Day 4      Ios

 

Choose one of the anchorages of the island or drop anchor in the port.

 

If you are in the port go and visit Hora, the capital 2km inland

 

 

 

 

Day 5      Skinoussa

 

Situated in the heart of the Small Cyclades, Skinoussa is a combination of all sceneries in the Aegean. A well protected small harbour, a few tavernas right on the waterfront  and a whitewashed village a few minutes up the hill.

Though this is a small island, you will enjoy impressive views of both sea and land.

 

 

 

Day 6      Naxos

 

Centre of the Cyclades, a well protected port and a medieval old town overlooking the port.

 

You will discover superb beaches in the southwest of Naxos and for those who like to explore the island on foot there are many interesting walking paths.

 

 

 

 

 

Day 7       Syros

 

The last journey might be rough en windy.

Depart early in the morning and choose an anchorage in Syros where you can enjoy the afternoon.

 

Sail back to the base at the end of the afternoon.

 

 

 

Day 8    Desembarkation at 09.00 p.m.

 

If you have enough time before your departure, you can leave your luggage with the supervisor of the base and go and visit the inland of Syros.
