Itinerary   Marsala  ( 1 week )

This is an itinerary to the islands situated west of Sicily, islands where you have the impression that time has stopped. Here you will be able to enjoy the charms of the Mediterranean.

You can choose to go to Pantelleria, or for those who prefer to sail less, you can go to Cape San Vito in the extreme nort-west of Sicily.

Day 1    Marsala

Embarkation at 17.00 p.m. heures

Provisioning and check in.

Day 2    Favignana

Arrival in the archipelago of the Aegades, where you shouldn’t  face any problems in particular.

La Punta ta Faraglione in the west indicates the entrance of a bay in the shape of a wide open V, in which the port and cala of Favignana are lodged.

The cala is located in front of the port, which is packed in the evening during summer. At the end of the day boats pass at high speed in order to find a place to anchor, and the ormeggiatore (the person who is responsible for the berths)  has a lot of trouble to manage all these boats who want absolutely to drop anchor.
The cala is not very big : it can take about a dozen of sailing- boats ( that is why it’s important not to arrive too late in the evening) and the entrance is about 4 – 5 m deep. Be careful as you approach the end of the cala there is a sand-bank on the west side and the water is only 3 m deep.
Please note during the night the wind will push the boat back direction sea, so it is recommended to anchor short on good holding sand. Do not throw out a chain of

40 m long ….. !

The small town of Favignana has many boutiques, where you can find anything you are looking for.

Day 3    Pantelleria

The ‘black’ island !  Pantelleria is a vulcanic island situated on the same latitude as Tunisia.

There is a lake with hot springs and mud-baths in the interior of the island.

The lake is connected with the sea through an underground gallery excavated in the lava.

A legend says that Venus used this lake as a mirror

Day 4     Mazzara del Vallo

Situated on the west coast of the island, Mazzara del Vallo is the most important fish-harbour in Sicily. The centre of the town is typical Arab.

From here you can visit the archaeological sites of Sélinonte and Agrigente.

Day 5    Marettimo

This island has been classified as a reservation of nature, it protects more than 500 species of plants.

You will discover several caves all along the coasts of the islands of the Aegades.

Day 6     Levanzo

This is the smallest island of the archipelago and is situated right opposite of Favignana. The access to this island is quite difficult. There for you can be sure solitude is guaranteed.  La Cala Dogana is the only  natural bay where you can drop anchor. The island became famous in 1949  when prehistorical paintings of animals and human beings were discovered in the cave called  Grotta del Genovese’.

You can get there by boat, donkey or by feet.

Day 7    Marsala

After a last trip in the archipelago you will reach Marsala at the end of the afternoon.

Day 8     Disembarkation at 09.00 a.m.

If you have time enough before your departure you can leave your luggage with the supervisor of the base and go and taste the local wine of Marsala ( in moderation of course …).
