Itinerary   Marmaris – Finike – Marmaris ( 2 weeks )

 

 

Day 1  Marmaris

 

Embarkation at 17.00 p.m.

Provisioning and check in

 

 

Departure at the end of the afternoon to Kumlubuku, about 6 miles from Marmaris.

Anchor  below the ancient city of Amos, situated in the north of the bay below the cliff.

Or anchor for free in the small port of the restaurant 'Kumlubuku Yacht Club' (very good restaurant) in the south of the bay.

 

 

Day 2   Gemile

 

Make  long journeys at the beginning of the cruise, because the wind will be favourable. Sail early in the morning  and make a stop to the east of cape Disibilmez.

 

You can choose to anchor at Gemile. If you arrive early in the afternoon you can visit the ruins of the large Byzantine city, a sacred place for the pilgrims who stopped there on their way to Jerusalem. The city was destroyed around 600 A.D. during an Arab invasion.

 

For dinner there is a good open air restaurant in the little bay of Sogut Su, east of the island.

 

 

Day 3   Castellorizo

 

Depart early in the morning again to avoid the currents caused by the wind during the  first 10 miles, which is becomes stronger as the day progresses and can be quite uncomfortable.

 

After cape Kotuburun the strong currents will be behind you and you will be able to admire the rugged  coast of the 7 capes.

 

Afterwards you will sail along a large beach of 20 km. It is strictly advised not to stop there, as it is a real trap for sailing-boats as soon as the wind gets stronger. The breaking waves and the lack of depth will make the boat hit the sea bed.

It’s better to stop in the west of the gulf of Kalkan, which offers a well protected place to anchor.

 

In the afternoon you can sail to the island of Castellorizo, situated in the far east of Greece.

 

Greek authorities allow sailing-boats coming from Turkey to make a stop there. Castellorizo will enchant you with an atmosphere from the past and several small tavernas on the quay.

 

Those who prefer it quieter can anchor at Mandraki, west of the fortress.

 

 

 

 

 

Day 4   Kekova

 

Long journeys  are finished now. You will have time to visit theblue cave’, east of Castellorizo, one of the most beautiful blue caves in the Mediterranean.

The lucky ones amongst you might see one or two of the last seal monks left in the Mediterranean.

 

A short journey will bring you to the gulf of Kekova. You will have the choice of many possible places to anchor, one being more beautiful than the other.

 

 

 

Day 5   Kekova

 

Have a walk in the village of Kale and climb up to the castle to admire the view.

 

Then sail from anchorage to anchorage in order to discover the unique gulf of  Kekova, protected heritage of humanity by Unesco.

 

 

If you go ashore you will be able to discover the traces of Lycian civilization and the 5 ancient cities situated on this site.

 

 

Day 6   Finike

 

Anchor in front of the beach of Demre. You can take a taxi and go and visit Myra, with its unique necropolis and beautiful theatre.

Myra is the native town of Saint Nicholas, and those who do not believe in Father Christmas, might have to review their opinion because ‘Baba Christmas’ is present everywhere here

 

During the afternoon you can enjoy the many features the marina of Finike has to offer.

 

 

Day 7   Kas

 

Kas is a beautiful village facing the island of Castellorizo.

 

The bold amongst you might want to have an air baptism. You will be dropped on the quay, right behind your sailing-boat.

 

 

Day 8   Kalkan

 

Kalkan and Kas used to be Greek villages in ancient times, there is still a very special atmosphere and architecture to be discovered.

 

 

 

Day 9   Fethiye

 

You will have to sail  back up to the 7 capes, leaving early in the morning to avoid thechoppy sea’ in the middle of the day.

 

Choose your stop for the night as soon as you arrive in Fethiye.

 

The town of Fethiye has a very entertaining night life.

 

The next morning you can visit the market.

 

 

Day 10   Gulf of Fethiye

 

There are too many fantastic anchorages in this gulf to advise you which one is the best.

 

Trust your intuition and spend your evening at one of the small restaurants located in one of the different bays.

 

Those who like to hike will discover interesting walking tracks.

 

 

Day 11   Gocek

 

Enjoy the gulf of Fethiye and spend the night at Gocek, a small village that has turned into one of the sophisticated places in Turkey. Luckily it has still managed to keep its charm.

 

 

Day 12   Ekincik

 

Ekincik is the point of departure for an amazing excursion down the river of Dalyan.

 

As you arrive in the evening, you will always be able to find a place to anchor in this large bay. There is an excellent restaurant on the east side of the anchorage.

 

Rent a small boat to make the excursion next day on the river surrounded by cane.

 

 

Day 13   Dalyan

 

Leave early in the morning to avoid the heat when you are visiting the ruins of the ancient city of Caunos.

 

Then sail up the river again while you can admire the famous Lycian graves sculpted in the rocks.

 

Have a stroll in the bazaar of Dalyan.

 

 

 

 

In the afternoon you will return to your saling-boat and choose an anchorage between Ekincik and Marmaris to spend the night.

 

Day 14  + 15   Marmaris

 

Arrival in Marmaris at the end of the afternoon. There are plenty of restaurants to finish your cruise in beauty.

 

 

Next morning disembarkation is at 09.00 a.m.

If you have time enough before you departure you can leave your luggage with the supervisor of the base and visit the bazaar of Marmaris.
