Itinerary   Antalya – Fethiye   ( 1 week )

 

Note : It is also possible to reverse this itinerary and start from Fethiye. In that case you will have to fly to the airport of Dalaman and you will be transferred to your boat (40 minutes).

 

 

 

 

Day 1           Antalya

 

 

Arrival at the airport, transfer to the boat and embarkation in the old port of Antalya, located in the centre of the old town.

 

Visit the old town before your departure.

You will spend the evening at Kemer, where you can enjoy the features and equipment the marina has to offer.

From here you can sail to Olympos and Phaselis.

Day 2               Departure to  Finike

 

 

 

You will pass in front of the ancient port of Phaselis. The ruins in the middle of a pine forest are very pleasant to visit.

Then you will sail along a steep coast, where the Taurus Mountains plunge directly into the sea

.

The first sight you come to is the ancient city of Olympos.

Nearby at Yanartas, according to mythology, the Lycian hero Bellerophone slew the fire-breathing monster Chimaera.  Gas which seeps from the earth burns at the place where the Chimaera died and  travellers of all times have been fascinated by this perpetual fire.  

 

At ancient Myra you can admire a spectacular ensemble of splendidly carved rock tombs, reproducing the facades of ancient buildings.  

 

You can also visit the church where Saint Nicholas was burried in the 4th century AD.

The original church was destroyed by an earthquake in 529 AD, then a larger basilica was built on the same spot.

Destroyed during an invasion of the Arabs in 1034, the church was rebuilt by Constantine IX in 1043. The church was once more restored in the 19th century thanks to a contribution from the Tsar of Russia, in honour of his patron Saint Nicolas.

Day 3             Departure to Kekova.

 

 

 

The island of Kekova provides a natural sailing-area which is well sheltered from winds and waves in all seasons.

 

Stopover at noon in Gokaya, an ideal place to enjoy the sea and have a swim.

 

Two small villages, Uc Agiz and Kale, are built right in the middle of the ruins of ancient cities dating from Lycian, Roman, Byzantine times and from the Middle Ages as well.

 

Kekova is listed by Unesco as a World Heritage Site.

Visit the village of Kale, dominated by a fortress that was built on the site of an ancient acropolis, by an Italian knight on his way to Jerusalem,  

In Uc Agiz take the time to visit the Lycian necropolis right by the sea.

 

 

 

Day 4             Departure to  Kas

 

 

After having navigated through a labyrinth of islands you will pass Cape Uluburun.

It was here they discoverd the oldest known  shipwreck dating from the Bronze Age.The ship-load was still intact, including bars of cupper, ivory, glass ( the oldest known outside of Egypt), jewellery, pottery, even amber coming from the Baltic.

 

 

When you have passed from the Greek island of Castellorizo you will arrive in the bay of Kas.

 

 

 

High on the cliffs above the small village of Kas, Lycian tombs were carved into the rock.

There is a beautiful theatre from where you have a magnificent view overlooking the Gulf of Kas, facing the Greek island of Castellorizo at nearly 2 miles.

 

In the evening you can have a walk in the streets with their numerous craft shops. Take the opportunity to go and see one of the most beautiful Lycian sarcophages, just above the street of the merchants.

 

 

 

 

 

Day 5              Kalkan

 

Stopover at noon in the anchorage of Yesilkoy, then in the afternoon you will sail to the small and beautiful Mediterranean port of Kalkan, which you will reach in a couple of minutes.

From Kalkan you can make an excursion to  Xanthos, the ancient capital of Lycia and Letoon. The sanctuary of Lycia is at about  ˝ hour by bus.

Day 6         From Kalkan to Gemile   

 

A very steep coast where the Taurus Mountains plunge directly into the sea. You will sail along an almost deserted beach of 20km long.

At the edge you will see the fascinating ruins of Patara, where Saint Nicolas used to live and which have strongly marked this coast.

 

 

 

After 4 hours of navigation you will anchor at Gemile. There you can visit the ruins of the large Byzantine city, a sacred place for the pilgrims who stopped there on their way to Jerusalem. The city was destroyed around 600 A.D. during an Arab invasion.

 

This natural sailing-area offers also an ideal setting for swimming and water-sports.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The more adventurous amongst you might like to jump by paraglider (together with a monitor) from the top of Baba Dag (2000m) down to the beach of Olu Deniz.

Certainly one of the most beautiful existing flights with paraglider during which you have a magnificent view. (Departure from Olu Deniz, price 100€/person).

 

 

 

You can make a very beautiful promenade starting from Sogut Su to arrive in the Greek village of Kayakoy (40 minutes). Originally the village counted 10.000 Greek inhabitants.  

In 1923 during the exchange of population between Greece and Turkey ( this concerned about more than 1 million people in total), the Greek inhabitants left the village and since then it has never been inhabited again.

 

 

 

Day 7         Departure to Fethiye

 

Fethiye is a small but entertaining town, where you can do your last shoppings in the bazaar before taking the plane back home.

 

You can go and visit the numerous Lycian rock tombs and the monumental tomb of Amyntas, sculpted into the cliff about 2500 years ago.
